Learn MoreTown and college were founded together in 1833 by missionaries who opposed slavery. Today, Oberlin College is recognized among the top liberal arts schools in the country, drawing about 90 percent of its 3,000 students from outside of Ohio.
A walk around Oberlin’s 440-acre campus rewards visitors with views of buildings by notable architects. Highlights include Talcott Hall (1887), constructed of sandstone quarried in nearby Amherst, Ohio; five major buildings by Cass Gilbert (including the Allen); Bibbins Hall (1964), designed by Minoru Yamasaki, architect of the former World Trade Center in New York City; and the solar-powered Adam J. Lewis Center for Environmental Studies, which earned national acclaim for its green technologies.
On their tour of campus, visitors can sit and read a book in one of the “womb chairs” in the Terrell Library, bowl a set at the College Lanes, or enjoy the scenic koi pond at the Conservatory of Music.
Thought-provoking lectures, theatrical performances, operas, and more—check out the Oberlin College events calendar for hundreds of free events throughout the year.
