Learn MoreThe Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College, recognized among the top academic art museums in the nation, will reopen its doors to the public on Friday, September 6, 2024. After being temporarily closed for Oberlin College and Conservatory’s Sustainable Infrastructure Program (SIP), the museum is set to welcome visitors once again. The SIP project—aimed at transitioning the campus to a geothermal heating and cooling system—is part of Oberlin’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025.
During this period of closure, the museum seized the opportunity to make significant upgrades to galleries and offices. These enhancements include refinished floors, new carpeting, and improved lighting, as well as the reinstallation of several galleries, ensuring a refreshed experience for all visitors.
“My colleagues and I are so glad to welcome visitors back to the Allen,” said Andria Derstine, John G. W. Cowles Director of the Allen. “We hope their experience of new installations of artwork spanning some 6,000 years, as well as a special presentation of the works of Albrecht Dürer and a new video space, will be enriched by the facilities updates of the summer.”
This fall, the Allen will showcase a diverse range of exhibitions and events, all free and open to the public. Below are details on the exhibitions, and more information about our events can be found on our website at amam.oberlin.edu/events. We look forward to welcoming the community back to explore our newly enhanced spaces.
