The Allen Memorial Art Museum acts as a career incubator for Oberlin students, and each year the AMAM employs two recent graduates as full-time, post-baccalaureate fellows. The museum currently seeks curatorial assistants for its Education Department and its Office of Academic Programs. The positions are open to Oberlin College graduates from the class of 2017 or after.
The curatorial assistant in education will assist in all aspects of public programs and outreach (virtual and in-person). They will assist with the creation and execution of public programs; develop materials for school tours and outreach initiatives; help to schedule, plan, and lead preK-12 and public tours of the museum; develop and manage content for the museum’s social media platforms, the events section of the AMAM website, and other media outlets; manage online educational platforms (Allen App and augmented reality tour); research the AMAM collection; assist with tours and programs at a historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house; and perform other duties as assigned.
In the Office of Academic Programs, the curatorial assistant takes an active role in day-to-day activities of the office, which develops new and innovative ways of making the AMAM and its collections central to an Oberlin education by working closely with faculty members and students. The curatorial assistant manages the calendar of class visits and faculty meetings; attends and contributes to planning meetings for class visits and other student-facing programs such as Shared Art; develops and produces resources for class sessions; co-supervises two student assistants; prepares the Print Study Room and gallery spaces for teaching and learning; compiles and tracks statistics related to outreach; conducts research on the AMAM’s collection as well as topics in higher education, museums, and object-based pedagogies; contributes to discussions about how to deepen student and faculty engagement with the AMAM and its collections; and performs other duties as assigned.
We encourage all those interested to get more information and apply for these positions.
