Support for the museum continues our tradition of bringing art to the people.
Learn MoreArt plays an integral role in liberal arts learning at Oberlin, offering students connections with coursework and personal interests, and creating pathways to careers in the arts. Whether looking at Mesopotamian statuettes or seeing the latest contemporary art at an opening event, you’ll find new ways of understanding your classes and yourself in a trans-historical, global context.
No matter what your major, you're invited to our free public programs. The monthly Allen After Hours series features guest speakers who are leaders in their fields, and sometimes live music in the museum setting.
Students may lead docent tours, participate in public talks, or work as curatorial assistants. By special request, museum curators sometimes oversee capstone projects and papers related to the collection. In addition, students occasionally organize exhibitions, either as part of a class or working individually with a museum curator.
Art Rental
Oberlin students can live with an original work of art for a semester, choosing from among more than 400 works in the Art Rental collection.
Career Preparation
Student assistants get museum experience by helping to plan and research exhibitions, give public tours, facilitate Oberlin class visits, and more.
Student Gallery Guide Program
Offered annually for academic credit, the Practicum in Museum Education trains students to give docent tours and introduces them to museum careers.
Student Programs
The museum occasionally hosts or organizes programs specifically for small groups of students.
