Art Donation Guidelines

Learn about our review process for accepting gifts of art.

Green Girl, a 1970s lithograph by Fairfield Porter Green Girl, a 1970s lithograph by Fairfield Porter, was given by Laurence and Marjorie ’60 Porter in 2014.

The museum is fortunate to benefit from the support of many generous individuals through both gifts of art and monetary contributions. Donors help the museum to achieve its mission to foster the study and appreciation of works of art of the highest quality. Many of our most important artworks have come from collectors wishing to preserve them in a museum setting.

To ensure that every acquisition meets our standards of quality and available resources, proposed gifts of art cannot always be accepted. Any work of art considered for the AMAM collection must undergo a formal review process. To initiate that process, please submit a high-quality photograph (digital or hard copy) for the curator’s review, along with information about the work’s artist, date, medium, and dimensions.

We also ask that you supply information about the work’s provenance (history of ownership), including how you acquired it. We would also appreciate receiving copies of any invoices or receipts, as well as any additional documentation you may have, for example where the work may have been exhibited or published.

This material may be emailed to us here, or sent via postal mail to: Allen Memorial Art Museum, 87 N. Main St., Oberlin, Ohio 44074. If you would like your materials returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Please note: Please do not bring unsolicited outside artworks into the museum building.
