On the Life, Breath, and Death of Trees

Exhibition dates subject to change.

This exhibition explores the profound presence of trees in East Asian art and global ecology. Featuring Chinese and Japanese paintings, ukiyo-e woodblock prints, and contemporary photography and video works, the exhibition traces the life cycle of various tree species while reflecting on their symbolic resonance and artistic legacy. By juxtaposing traditional aesthetics with modern environmental concerns, viewers are invited to consider trees not only as cultural icons and industrial resources but as vital participants in Earth’s respiratory system. Through art, we are called to witness the life, breath, and death of trees—as well as our shared dependence on them.
