The Allen launches a long-term partnership with the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art, bringing loans of exceptional Tibetan Buddhist art to Oberlin College. The inaugural installation features paintings of two arhats—enlightened disciples of the Buddha—and a ceremonial vajra, a ritual implement symbolizing wisdom and compassion in Vajrayana Buddhism. Together, these works introduce visitors to the rich artistic traditions and spiritual practices of Tibet and Nepal while highlighting the cultural exchange between Himalayan and Chinese artistic traditions. Through this collaboration, the Allen expands opportunities for teaching, research, and cross-cultural engagement with one of the world’s great artistic traditions. Future rotations will continue to offer fresh perspectives on Himalayan art, encouraging visitors to return and discover new works and stories each year.
