Berlin-based artist Omer Fast avails himself of the conventions of documentary film while undermining its pretense of factualness. Godville features interviews Fast conducted with resident-actors in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Living and working in a town preserved as an 18th-century living museum, the film’s subjects seem to have internalized their role-playing. Godville demonstrates how fictions and simulations inform contemporary notions of history and erode the stability of truth.
This is one of several concurrent presentations throughout the museum of works given to the Allen by Driek (OC 1965) and Michael (OC 1964) Zirinsky.
