Very often, the impulse to share a unique experience fuels the creation of art. Works in this exhibition demonstrate various ways in which artists have created objects that pinpoint, preserve, or embellish a particular moment. For example, František Kupka uses watercolor to transport us to a heightened reality with intense focus on detail and character. A photograph by Donald Sultan transforms wisps of smoke into a sculptural experience. Each of the five artists represented engage with a medium well suited to capturing the fragile and intimate moments that most inspire them, freezing a moment of their own gaze and distilling that experience for future viewers.

Hayley Larson (OC 2014), curatorial assistant in the Office of Academic Programs, curated the exhibition.
