The Invisible Revealed: Surrealist Drawings from the Drukier Collection

October 8 - December 19, 2004
In Ripin Gallery

This private collection provides an extraordinary and comprehensive overview of Surrealism from its development in the mid-1920s, when it grew out of the devastation of the First World War and the eccentricities of Dadaism. Often witty and occasionally shocking or terrifying, Surrealist drawings provide a window into the thought processes of artists as they came to terms with the rapidly changing political and social situations in the world. Among the artists represented in this show are Max Ernst, René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dali, Roberto Matta, Hans Bellmer, Yves Tanguy, Kay Sage, and Dorothea Tanning.

The exhibition was organized by the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University.
