The Home Show: Spaces for Contemporary Life

February 10 - June 6, 2004
In East Gallery

Included in this exhibition are three small spaces for contemporary habitation, real and imagined. In First House, Siah Armajani employed the vocabulary of structural engineering to create a space that at first appears inhabitable, but actually has no architectural function.

Charles Simonds’s Spiral People, built with clay and twigs, was made for people who, according to the artist, bury their past and use it as building material.

Recently added to the AMAM collection, Tina’s House, from the “Home Visits” series by Pepón Osorio, is a tabletop-sized construction, meant to travel from house to house in the Latin American religious tradition of the “visiting saint.”
