Acquisitions in Contemporary Art

September 25, 2001 - January 13, 2002
In Ellen Johnson Gallery

During the past three and a half years, the Allen Memorial Art Museum acquired through gifts and purchases works of art in various media and styles. As a result we enhanced our representation of international and African-American artists, some of whom are just now receiving critical acclaim. On view will be established artists like Chuck Close, Romare Bearden, Robert Mapplethorpe, Tsuruya Kokei, and Gene Davis and newly recognized artists like Marjetica Potrc, Luiz Cruz Azaceta, Rashid Johnson, and Chakaia Booker.

Acquisitions in Contemporary Art was curated by Sharon F. Patton, John G.W. Cowles Director.
