The Allen is pleased to announce the 2027 Harold Jantz Memorial Lecture with a talk/performance by Joy Harjo, internationally acclaimed poet, musician, and author. Harjo was the first Native American (Muscogee Nation) to serve as the Poet Laureate of the United States for three separate terms. She has published 11 books of poetry, plays the saxophone and flute, and received numerous honors. Harjo’s work spans a wide variety of art forms, themes, and advocacy, weaving together Native American stories and themes of the human experience from a feminist lens. This event is organized in conjunction with the Allen’s exhibition The land is a being who remembers everything, whose title comes from Harjo's poem “Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings.”
