AT THE ALLEN / FALL 2024 / 23 DEC 10, DEC 17 / 10:30 AM WEBINARS / ALBRECHT DÜRER WITH ERIK INGLIS In partnership with Kendal at Oberlin, Erik Inglis (OC 1989), Mildred C. Jay Professor of Art at Oberlin College, delivers two webinar presentations on Albrecht Dürer. These 1.5-hour webinars are free and open to all. Register at amam.oberlin.edu/durer-webinar. ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION Most events at the Allen will be held in a wheelchair- and rolling walker-accessible building. The lecture space is wheelchair accessible, with moveable seating, and near wheelchair-accessible restrooms. Listening devices will be available for use during the Allen After Hours presentations, but ASL interpretation is not planned. DEC 10: Albrecht Dürer: Artist as Creator and Entrepreneur This talk will introduce the artist and printmaker, concentrating on the artistic and entrepreneurial innovations that made him a pivotal figure in art history. DEC 17: Albrecht Dürer: Family Man Families are a key theme in Dürer’s art. He depicted his own family, preserved their records, and frequently featured families in his prints, including those of Christ, his patron Maximilian, and representations of peasant and Turkish families. DEC 10 / 3 PM TUESDAY TEA / RETHINKING THE DISPLAY OF ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN AND WESTERN ASIAN ART AT THE ALLEN The Allen’s collection of ancient art spans 5,000 years and comes from areas around the Mediterranean Sea, such as Egypt, Greece, Rome, and as far east as modern Pakistan. The recent reinstallation of this gallery highlights the vastness and diversity of the ancient world alongside themes of convergence and shared practices. Join us for a talk with co-curators Emily French, Interim Curator of Academic Programs, and Marlise Brown, Assistant Curator of European and American Art. DEC 11 / 5:30 PM ALLEN AFTER HOURS / MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE + STUDIO ART WALK CELEBRATION Everyone is invited to attend this free, exciting event hosted by the museum and Oberlin College’s art department. Begin the evening at the Allen for an open house featuring the selected artwork for the class of 2028’s Shared Art program. The event continues with the annual Art Walk, an end-of-semester celebration that serves as a chance for students to showcase their work in exhibition spaces across campus. NOV 15 & 16 THE BODY, THE HOST: A SYMPOSIUM ON ART, HIV/AIDS, AND CHRISTIANITY This symposium, held in conjunction with the exhibition The Body, the Host: HIV/AIDS and Christianity, brings together artists, activists, and historians who expand conventional narratives around Christianity, HIV/AIDS, and their overlaps. The keynote address will be presented by Dee Dee Ngozi Chamblee (pictured right). Other presenters include Creighton Baxter, Jessica Beck, Brendan Fernandes, and Peter Staley (OC 1983).
